Metfield Bakery was founded in the late 1970s as East Anglia’s first organic bakery by peter Hibberd and then run by his successor Phillip Smith and our classic loaves like the country cob and wholemeal are still as popular as then.
Since 2004 Metfield Bakery has been owed and managed by Stuart Oetzmann, who being a trained pastry chef, developed our range of artisan-handcrafted breads. These include long fermented sourdoughs and continental ryes. Stuart also changed the offering of cakes focusing on high – quality, seasonal ingredients and British products. Try our award winning lardy cake developed by the late Jacqueline Leeming.
In 2009 Stuart purchased All Natural Bakery whose specialist spelt and gluten – free breads have got a loyal following and have proved to be a great addition to the range.
